R. Crumb Snoid Comics One-Shot Rear Cover Original Art

Robert Crumb Snoid Comics One-Shot Rear Cover Original Art (Kitchen Sink Press, 1980).

Crumb's most obnoxiously funny character, Mr. Snoid, declares his anti-feminist manifesto in this satire of misogyny (Crumb's artistic courage is such that he will parody a phenomenon in its own caustic language -- becoming, in this instance, a sitting duck for false accusations of misogyny). Snoid Comics is one of the last of the Old School Underground titles, produced five years after the original movement had faded and just a year before Crumb would reinvent the idiom with a Punk Movement-influenced magazine called Weirdo. The art, here, is largely spontaneous, with the ink applied in Real Time with little preliminary pencilling. The medium is ink over graphite on Bristol board, with white-paint retouching. A large patch of white (left) shows where Crumb had eliminated an entire block of text. The image area is 9" x 12.75", framed out to 17.5" x 20.5". Faint toning, with light handling wear and some deterioration in the lettering. Very Good condition. Extremely rare and special piece of Underground Art history. The frame itself contains small areas of scuffing.
