Underground comics in the 60's and 70's were small press or self-published comic books that are often socially relevant or satirical in nature differing from mainstream comics in depicting content forbidden to mainstream publications by the Comics Code Authority, including explicit drug use, sexuality, political issues, and violence. Now, these works are treasured works that are highly valued artistically and culturally around the globe.
